TO CADETS

Welcome to the new web site of the Sea Cadets in Woking. I hope that the content of these pages is both informative and fun. The fact that you have accessed this site suggests that you may be interested in becoming a Sea Cadet in Woking; if so, I look forward to meeting you and your parents on any parade night (Monday or Thursday).

Should you decide to join our unit, I hope your stay with us on TS Dianthus will be a long, happy, rewarding and memorable one. The Sea Cadet Corps is the oldest and best youth organisation in the world. In T.S. Dianthus you will find friendship, camaraderie and a tremendous team spirit. We ask you to keep smart and take it for granted that you enjoy participating in a disciplined atmosphere. There is plenty of willing help available if you have problems of any sort.

You have a right to become involved in all the activities available to you, and we hope you will do so wholeheartedly §.

TO PARENTS

The Corps endeavours to provide a wide range of activities and skills that are adventurous and appealing to both boys and girls aged between 10 and 18 years, in a context of caring discipline. The aim is to aid their development of self-confidence, self-discipline, leadership and sense of responsibility to the community.

In order for your sons and daughters to get the most out of the Sea Cadets, it is important that they take part in as many Unit and other Sea Cadet Corps activities as possible. Your encouragement towards this end will be extremely helpful. My staff and I will do our utmost to ensure that our cadets enjoy their stay with us.

If you have any queries or problems, please do come along and see either me, or any of my staff. You will always be welcome at the Unit at any time during parade hours (Monday and Thursday, 7.00pm - 9.00pm.)

Your child will never attend a weekend / week activity without you prior written consent. The Sea Cadet Corps imposes very high standards on its staff members to ensure that any supervisor has the correct qualifications for that activity. Cadets will always be issued with the relevant safety equipment (such as lifejackets) before the event commences.

TS Dianthus will do its best to accommodate those children with  special needs.  Please speak to the Commanding Officer if you have a child that requires particular attention.

In addition, any help you can provide will be really appreciated. We have an active Parents and Supporters Association (PSA), which raises money for the Cadets' needs. New members to the PSA are always more than welcome. It meets on a monthly basis and organises social and fund-raising events. Although the Sea Cadet Corps do receive help from the Royal Navy in certain areas, we are totally self-funding with regard to day-to-day running costs §.

Kind Regards,

Lt. John Bray

Simply the best  . . . . .  that's the Sea Cadets !
